South Beach Versus Atkins
Do you know the difference between the South Beach diet and the Atkins diet? Both plans have fans and both have records of weight loss success.
The Difference Between The South Beach Diet And The Atkins Diet Plan
The Atkins Diet has gone through many changes over time. The original strict low-carb eating plan has several different variables you must consider before you try to follow it to the letter. Atkins offers a number of advantages which can make it an ideal diet for some. However, the downsides may spell it out for others as well. Some individuals find that the plan works perfectly fine for them and doesn’t cause any trouble. Others may find it a hard diet to adhere to.
The Atkins Diet has four phases, which you need to carefully consider. Each phase focuses on a different macro mineral balance and promotes healthy diet choices. The initial phase is meant to get you used to the new low carb diet by introducing a variety of new foods. After this stage, the focus turns to reducing carbohydrates. In phase three, you will slowly introduce higher levels of carbohydrates and fibers to your diet. In the fourth phase, you will be focusing on fats.
Similar But Different Diet Plans
The South Beach Diet is similar to the Atkins Diet in that it also focuses on a new way of eating. The biggest difference between these two diets is the length of time devoted to them. The South Beach Diet allows you to eat more frequently and for longer periods of time. This results in burning more calories overall. You are allowed to consume three small meals a day as opposed to the Atkins Diet, which focuses on being able to consume five small meals throughout the day.
While both diets have successful results, there are important differences between them. It would be hard to completely draw the line between the two without comparing them side by side. Both diets promote healthy eating, healthy diet choices, and weight loss. The primary difference between the Atkins Diet and the South Beach Diet is that the South Beach Diet requires a long term commitment to eating according to the plan while the Atkins Diet plan does not require any type of long term commitment.
Both Plans Preach Low Carb
Both diets teach their followers to limit carbohydrates to only a few categories such as vegetables, proteins, and unsaturated fats. They encourage eating healthy foods such as fruits, leafy greens, and various whole grains. Both of these types of diets require their followers to limit their portion sizes. This is because when a person consumes too many carbohydrates, it causes a large amount of calories to be burned instead of being used as energy. The South Beach Diet is easier for people who are used to high carbohydrate diets because it limits the amount of carbohydrates a person eats in each meal. This helps to limit the amount of calories a dieter consumes overall, which helps to promote weight loss.
Phase two of the South Beach Diet has a focus on fat reduction. If you are someone who is trying to lose weight then you should be reducing the amount of saturated fats you consume as well as the amount of carbohydrates that you consume. Many times you will find the Atkins Diet Plan requiring you to eat larger proportions of proteins in order to reduce your saturated fat consumption. If you are only required to eat a small amount of protein then you will also be able to eat larger portions of veggies. Many times this second phase of the Atkins Diet Plan requires you to increase your daily amounts of water.
